SO YOU FINALLY GOT THAT PORSCHE

When Spring arrives in the Bay Area, there's no better way to celebrate the fresh air but in a Porsche.
Consider this blog as a depository for awesome Porsche drives/tours in and around the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California.

Draw an imaginary line across the center of California. Anchor one end off the Monterey Area/Santa Cruz mountains, on the Pacific coast. Run the line east over the Coast Range, through the Central Valley, and over the Sierra Nevada mountains. Tether the other end of the line at the Nevada border, on the fringe of the Great Basin Desert.

"Backroads of Northern California" covers the incomparable natural beauty, the myths and the history of the Golden State on the northern side of that line, while "Backroads of Southern California" does the honors for the lower half, from the San Joaquin Valley to the border with Mexico.

TOURS are what they sound like - someone leads a bunch of Porschephiles hither-and-yon for the express purpose of having them follow onto great Porsche roads, go interesting places and generally have a wonderful time driving their cars.

If you can hang around on the Pacific Coast Highway or Mullohand Drive and watch the traffic go by, you would see one of almost everything in a given hour's time, from Porsches, Lamborghini's, Cobras, Speedsters, '32 high-boy roadsters, to MGA's, TC's, E-Types, and Woodie wagons. Porsche 356 Speedster? They are everywhere!

When was the last time you saw a Porsche 356 on the road?

There's no mistaking, vintage 356 Porsche cars are a special breed of automobiles that have played an important role of shaping automobile design. Car manufacturers of today are constantly struggling to create the same kind of excitement that car designers of the past were able to accomplish so naturally without the use of modern technologies. With each passing year, their history, design features, racing pedigree, and even their idiosyncrasies become increasingly appreciated.

The 911 was the outgrowth of the Porsche 356 Speedster cabriolet, particularly the 1963 SC version.  One of the purest and most basic and most beautiful of all auto designs, the Speedster was designed primarily as a California sports car to take advantage of the money of wealthy Hollywood stars and producers and the more convertible-friendly climate.

The 356 Speedster's famous race car sister, the 550 Spyder, was the Porsche in which James Dean was killed on September 30, 1955, forever immortalizing that particular model, too.

This appreciation is especially true for those who experience these cars . If you are a owner or know someone that is a 356 car hobby bug, these newly born enthusiasts begin buying books, magazines, regalia, cars and parts, and anything else they can get their hands on to fulfill their yearning for 356 Speedster car fun. If these cars are tucked away in a dark corner of a garage, this scenario would never happen.

So if you are a owner of a 356 Speedster, grab your gloves and goggles, it is time to have some fun! See you on the road.......Pacific Coast Highway 1!!

 ICE FORCE 2009

Check out this video as Porsche 911's carve up the snowy scenery and jam to the nice techno -beats in all too beautiful Finland.
There’s no better location for winter driver training than the northern Arctic Circle, or more precisely the Arctic Driving Center in the Finnish town of Rovaniemi or at the Mellatracks Proving Ground in Ivalo – about 300 km (186 miles) further north. Take to the wheel of a 911 Carrera or Cayenne and hone your car control skills on ice and snow. Experience all types of conditions including a black-ice slalom and the off-road circuit with the benefit of expert guidance from Porsche Sport Driving School instructors. After the training, you’ll also get the opportunity to explore the endless expanse of Lapland’s countryside – on snowmobiles, for example.

NOBODY'S PERFECT - California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger parking his Porsche in a red zone in Beverly Hills!!

WHOOPS!!!....Governor Arnold parking his Porsche last Saturday in a red zone in Beverly Hills!

Just weeks after his wife Maria Shriver apologized for parking her Cadillac Escalade in a red zone, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appears to have made a California Vehicle Code violation too,  ....was spotted parking his wheels, apparently Arnold didn't learn from his wife's mistake. Several other videos showed Maria holding a cell phone while driving, another violation of California law.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger says photographs of his Porsche illegally parked in a Beverly Hills red zone are proof that even he makes mistakes. The city typically issues a $90 citation to red zone violators.
The Republican governor said Tuesday his Saturday violation shows "no one is perfect—not even me."

Arnold Schwarzenegger breaking the California Vehicle Codes

You can see here that Mr. Porsche Schwarzenegger lacks a front license plate, as required by the California Vehicle Code 5200-5206

Yes, that $100,000 silver beauty would be a unsightly look with the front license plate.
However, there are many Porsche owners that lack the front license plate, including myself for years.
So I guess I am breaking the law too!

I read this article and found out the state of California may be finding ways to make some additional revenue.
Someone did a  internet search trying to find the reason for needing a front license plate in the first place which turned up fruitless and found a long list of reasons to repeal the widely adopted law.

....Removing your front license plate might save you money

In the meantime, there’s one of those useless internet petitions available to “eradicate” California’s front license plate law, so far it has 17,406 signatures. If you add your name, please sure to leave a comment that blogging.la sent you!

2010 Porsche 911 GT3 "R " version

Start your engines: Porsche develops more powerful ‘R’ version of its 911 GT3 for 2010 motor sport season

Another Porsche racing car based on the venerable  911— surprised? The Porsche 911 GT3 R joins the Weissach racing stable in 2010 as the successor to the  911 GT3 Cup S.

An anti-lock braking system, traction control and an electronic throttle with ‘blip’ function on gearbox down-changes make it more driver-friendly than its predecessor. Additional flared wheel arches front and rear striking LED rear light clusters make up the exterior mods.
